Zachary O’Donnell is a seventeen-year-old Kamilaroi (Gamilaraay) person stemming from Coonabarabran, New South Wales. Zachary grew up in a small community called Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, and he is currently residing in Adelaide (on Kaurna Country) to complete his studies, whilst running a successful art profile under the name Marayn Arts.

Finley ran along the rooftop, spiked bat held tightly in his hand. Taking a quick glance behind him, he saw two zombies clawing and racing towards him. He looked ahead and leapt to the next roof, turning swiftly, bat ready for the zombies.

Languages all over the world are dying, tearing down the cultures and traditions which are bound to them. Many languages, including countless Aboriginal languages, are in significant danger of totally vanishing soon, severing people’s connections to their history, culture and identity.

When you envision a more just and joyful world - what do you dare to dream of?

School is fast-paced, interactive and very collaborative, so it was a huge challenge to adjust to learning from home during the pandemic, especially because I had very limited internet coverage.

While for many January 26th is a day of family celebrations, beach cricket and barbecues, for the nearly 800,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians it can be a day of overwhelming sadness, frustration, and a reminder of the generational trauma experienced by First Nations people.

If there’s one statement that’s been thrown around excessively during the pandemic that’s turned 2020 upside down, it’s “I can’t wait for things to get back to normal.”

An ocean of children toppled down the hill, all searching for one thing. An Easter egg! Little kids bounced around in joy holding heaps of egg-shaped chocolates wrapped in foil, but then, all of a sudden, the little children began to cry.

A few months ago, I turned sixteen, and every parent knows what that means: watch out Adelaide, I am learning to drive. As a sixteen-year-old, I have a myriad of responsibilities. At sixteen, I can learn to drive, I pay tax, I can work, register as an organ donor and even apply to join the Australian military. However, despite all of this responsibility, at sixteen, I am not allowed to vote.
