We’ve all seen the TikToks comparing this year’s Met Gala to the Hunger Games. Why is that? And how does the state of our world influence our perceptions of the ultra-elite.

When I was scrolling on social media this week like every Met Gala week, I saw the TikTok about the pretty dresses, the celebrity interviews, the designer drama, and the fashion faux pas.

But what was way more prominent in my feed was the montages contrasting the glitz and glamour of The Met with the destruction in war-torn Palestine and Ukraine. This and the resultant anger from users who even made a trend out of blocking attendees (#blockout2024), was so prominent that it made mainstream media.

Jessica Williams wants to put an end to loneliness. For new migrants especially, it can be quite difficult to find your own community and people. Many younger migrants face higher levels of social isolation. This inspired Jessica to create Small World Networking.

To begin Youth Week, I have interviewed Sam Weavers. Sam, otherwise known professionally as Sam’s Popcorn, is revolutionising the popcorn game. Despite being in high school, Sam has unlocked people’s tastebuds in search of the next big flavour.

I was inspired to become a Hub Intern because it is a place that values my skill set, the content is created for young people by young people, and it allows me to develop my skills and experience new things.

Recently, I was involved in supporting, and luckily being a part of the ‘Multicultural Networking Event’ organised by the Marion Youth Collective Committee, and directed by Jessica Williams, founder of local networking business ‘Small World Networking’.

Fast fashion continues to dominate the Australian clothes market. According to the ‘From high fashion to high vis’ 2021 report from the Australian Fashion Council, published on ABC News. Approximately 227,000 tonnes of garments are discarded in Australia each year to landfill.

Living in a country town means I have been lucky enough to grow up doing sports my whole life. I have tried 10 different sports so far, and I’m currently doing Free G and basketball. This year I started going to my local YMCA gym everyday to workout. This has improved my mental health so much, and I have become more confident in myself.

As a group we are working on multiple different projects including campaigns surrounding racism, cancel culture, sexual health and identity. We are hoping to create a space for young people to freely ask questions and receive informed answers opposed to young people educating themselves using social media or unreliable online resources.

Having been to two my personal favourite thing about both of them is networking with both political members in my area and fellow passionate young people, many of which I am still friends with today! The dance circle inf this year's summit was also fun too.

Currently the Free Fares Campaign has put out a petition to get free public transport for children going to and from school as we have realised this is a major issue that is effecting children’s education. This is because some students aren’t able to catch transport to and from school as they don’t have enough money and transport can get expensive.
