“I’m very lucky to have my Dad as a teacher” - Oliver Solberg on His Dad, Petter

Father-son time, there’s some pretty cool ways to pass the time with your old man. In the case of Oliver and Petter Solberg, there’s nothing better then winning the Race of Champions, [ROC], together for Norway.

Twice now defending champions, both times in the snow of Sweden, Oliver Solberg opened up on the relationship with his father ahead of the Race of Champions in Sydney.

“He’s the one that got me into rallying, and got me into Motorsport,” Solberg began.

“We’ve won it [the ROC] the last few times, me and my dad together.

“It’s emotional every time, [winning with him] we’ve been very lucky to be able to do it together. It’s a dream come true.

“To win it twice with your dad it’s very unique,” Solberg said.

In terms of the event, Solberg was quick to mention the strength of his competitors as he attempts to win the nations cup three times in a row.

“I don’t know if we are the favourites, it’s a different type of track to last time.”

“There’s a bit of nerves, a bit of prestige, you meet the best drivers in the world, for sure there’s a lot of pressure.”

“Every driver is such a top driver. We are all here to win and compete, every heat is going to be tough, [I’m looking forward to driving against] none of them,” Solberg added.

The Rally driver did mention that he’d never driven against the Australian talent, and stated that “you never know how quick they are;”

Solberg also saw the track for the first time today, and was jumping at the bit to get out there and drive.

“The track looks amazing, the cars around this track, I’m excited.”
