Exclusive: “I Just Ballsed it up as Usual” - Mostert on his Spin

After a late call up to the Rally of Champions, [ROC], Chaz Mostert has been busy adjusting to the cars at his disposal this weekend.

Toward the end of today’s practice session, Mostert was too eager and made an uncharacteristic mistake, spinning the Polaris heading into the bus stop chicane.

“We just did a bit of qualifying type thing at the end there, but I absolutely [messed] it up,” Mostert began post session.

“The tyres are a bit hot after the first part of the lap, by the time we got to the bus stop there, I just attacked to hard on the entry, I turned in way too hard.

“I sent it pretty hard and just didn’t come up with it.

“It’d been awhile since I’d been back in the Polaris, and the Polaris just didn’t hang on like the other cars.

“Realising the parameter of your car is also a bit tricky, that caught me out,” Mostert added.

However, Mostert did sing the praises of the Polaris, showing that it wasn’t all dome and gloom for that relationship heading into the event starting proper on Friday night;

“The Polaris is the funist, it feels like you’re on a farm, just letting loose, but it’s the most challenging too.”

The ROC have done a fantastic job with the circuit, multiple drivers have labelled it difficult, this afternoon, Mostert joined that group.

“The track is really challenging and so are the cars.”

“It’s all difficult, especially when you’re going from right-hand drive cars to left hand-drive cars.

“[But] it’s the same for everyone, we all need to show that adaptability.”

Away from the Race of Champions, Chaz Mostert is a supercars driver at Walkinshaw Andretti United, who’s move from Ford to Toyota made headlines before the season began;

“I found out last year at sometime [that the switch was happening], but for us our focus is on this year and finishing out this year with Ford. We’d really love to win the championship with Ford this year.

“I’m super excited for the next supercars round. Very early in the season still, but we had a couple of podiums in the first round which is cool,” Mostert said.

The Rally of Champions get underway at 7:00 PM Adelaide time, however gates open at Accor Stadium at 5:30 PM.
