“It’s an Exciting Event” - Mick Schumacher Previews Race of Champions

Runner up both individually and for Germany in previous Race of Champions competitions, Mick Schumacher sat down with Hub Adelaide to preview Sydney’s event.

“First impressions are good,” Schumacher began.

“We are looking at the track, we’ve done two runs so far.

“The track is pretty dirty, so we will see how good it comes after a couple of runs.

“I’ve learnt where it goes left and right,” Schumacher joked, as he reflected on his first couple of runs.

Like many on the grid, Schumacher has driven in range of different competitions, and says that he will use every bit of experience if he wishes to be successful across the weekend;

“I’ll be drawing on all the experience from go karts to F1 and into WEC, [World Endurance Championship]. [Different series] just build the skillset of a racing driver, and you use it to be competitive anywhere you go.”

Aside from driving himself, Schumacher spend lots of the day looking at how other driver’s were attacking the challenging kilometer long circuit;

“None of them [the other drivers] have driven the cars that I have driven so far, so what I’m looking at is seeing what they’re doing in that car. We just saw Trav [Travis Pastrana] in the Polaris, it will be interesting to see what some of the other guys are doing when they are driving.”

In terms of his competition, the former HAAS driver was quick to single out nobody;

“I think [I’m looking forward to driving against] everybody,” Schumacher said.

“It’s an exciting event, unfortunately we won’t be able to race against everybody as it’s grouped up, but nonetheless I think we are very excited to get going and everybody is eager to show their performance.”

This year, Mick Schumacher will race for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. In the opening race of the year in Qatar, Schumacher and his team finished 13th, a place ahead of the sister Alpine car, and rather unsurprisingly, Schumacher labelled the weekend “difficult.”

“It’s been tough,” Schumacher said.

“But we are all very excited for what’s to come and we are all pushing toward the same goal.”
