Feeney Fastest as Allen Stumbles
After a monster crash in the Aussie Racing Cars, there was a massive amounts of oil all over the track in the top 10 shootout, leaving the track in a treacherous condition for session.
Brodie Kostecki was the first of several drivers to have a run in with the wall as the back of his car slid out of turn four and into the wall.
“It was pretty hard then,” he said.
“It’s (the track) is covered in oil, all over the track.”
Against the odds, Aaron Cameron, a rookie this year, produced the lap of his career, and dragged his #3 Mustang into the front row, as championship leader, Red Bull’s Broc Feeney, secured his 18th pole of the season.
Feeney’s teammate and title rival, Will Brown, was the closest of the championship contenders, in fifth. While Kai Allen had a massive problem with his car, and wasn’t able to post a competitive time, his lap only good enough for eighth.
Chaz Mostert, the final of the supercars championship contenders, didn’t compete in the top 10 shootout, his qualifying coming to an end in position 12 earlier in the day.
The supercars get back underway for Race 33 at 3:20pm local.
