Bulls Win as non-stop Racing Sees Supercars Race Elbows Out
An old school supercars race opened the weekend for Australia’s premier touring car championship. Spins, crashes and overtakes were the order of the day, as race one at Albert Park had shades of 2024’s final race in Adelaide.
But through all of the craziness, Feeney and Brown had their bulls charging, finishing one and two. In was clincal out in front, as neither got overtaken in the race.
Off the line, Broc Feeney defended his position well from teammate Will Brown.
As lap 2 began, Cameron Hill nearly overtook Brown, as Feeney moved off quickly into the sunset. Later in the lap, Feeney was nearly in trouble due to some mischievous ducks that had walked into the track at turn 9 and 10.
Anton De Parsquale was pushed off the track twice in two corners as old school supercars gave everyone something to cheer about. Moves were made around the F1 circuit, but still the three of Feeney, Brown and Hill kept the podium places.
Further down the field, Cameron Waters had gone from second last to dead last, but over the opening laps he had found some speed. This was until he came up against his teammate, Thomas Randle, as the Tickford boys had a robust exchange.
Then chaos ensued around Randle and Waters. From about 13th down, several cars ended up touching and tagging.
Macauley Jones welcomed Kai Allen to his first full season. The two were sliding out of the final corner, where Allen unfortunately was the dammed. He went out into the marbles, and with no traction left, he spun round.
A safety car was called when fellow rookie Aaron Cameron ended up in the gravel. Beached with no where to go, the race paused on lap eight of 19.
From the restart, it was again the three of Feeney, Brown and Hill. Feeney went at the entry to turn 13 and got away from Brown again.
Further down in the 10, Chaz Mostert and Richie Stanaway got fighting, which then invited several others to get involved.
Ryan Wood got through against both of his rival Fords.
Le Brocq then got spun by Kostecki on lap 12, and his race fell away.
From there, both PremiAir cars would have their races ruined. James Golding hit the tyre barrier, and his day was done, then Stanaway’s good day was ruined when Mostert and Cooper Murray got down and dirty.
When Matthew Payne’s pace disappeared, Kostecki and Wood both got through with just over a minute to go in the race. Kostecki and Wood then starting fighting each other, as the final two laps saw Kostecki make a mistake, but he recovered to finish fourth.
Hill, Brown, and Feeney ended up on the podium, as the Supercars kicked off a super weekend.
