What inspired you to become a Hub Intern and what do you do in your role?

I was inspired to join Hub as an intern because I wanted to grow my media skill set, experience new things, and put in place some of the ideas I’m learning at uni. Hub emphasises creating content for young people and ensuring they have a voice in what that content is. It has allowed me to grow and be included in a place that has similar values.

My role at Hub is Media Intern, this includes producing written and visual content for the website such as movie reviews, political opinion pieces and current news. This also includes posting visuals on our Instagram that are relevant to South Australia’s young people.

What’s your favourite thing about yourself?

My favourite thing about myself is my love for learning. I love learning about the places I’ve travelled to or places that I want to travel to. Reading about many different ideas through fiction and non-fiction novels as well as learning about new cooking techniques. This also furthers my range of creativity skills.

What are you passionate about outside of Hub?

Outside of Hub I have a multiple passions and areas of interest. I am in 3rd year of my studying a Bachelor of Media (Social Media and Digital Promotion) and Bachelor of Arts (Politics and International Relations) which allows me to pursue my love of politics through media. I also am an avid AFL and AFLW fan and go to all the home games for Port Adelaide. I also have just got back into reading, particularly literary fiction, and LGBTQ+ fiction.

What is a food or dish that always puts you in a good mood?

A safe go to that will always put me in a good mood is hot chips. Tofu and soba noodles with miso paste is a winner in summer and I do realise that this is a very vegan answer.

If you had to give a 30 minute presentation with no notice, what would your topic be?

If I had to give a 30-minute presentation with no notice, my topic would be about how the internet/social media has impacted the international political climate. As someone that has basically grown up through this time, I find it very interesting to see how much has changed in such a small timeframe. I’ve learnt a lot about this through uni as well.

Edie Squire is a Media Intern for Hub, exploring current affairs and the screen.
