However, you may ask yourself the question, ‘What is the Fringe?’ Well, you’re not the only one, and the Adelaide Fringe: A History has you covered!

Adelaide Fringe: A History takes you on an intriguing walk through all the famous Fringe locations within the Adelaide Fringe Chronicles. Starting from the gates of Government House, and ending in the Garden of Unearthly Delights, you get a first-hand account of what makes the Fringe the magical festival it is today.

From its humble beginnings in the 60s, you learn about the deep frustrations of Artists, searching for somewhere to showcase their creations. Through these shared frustrations, you visually see the impacts the artists had to help establish the Fringe.

In the 70s you witness the first elements of the Fringe appear. From the arts reforms of South Australian Premier Don Dunstan to the vision of something fun, affordable, and accessible to everyone. You hear about the stories behind some of the decisions, both comedic and ironic, of Adelaide’s interesting history of customs.

In the 80s and 90s, you learn about the artistic decisions chosen for posters with first person examples that will blow your mind.

The Tour is hosted by Flamboyance Tours, whose tour guides show an incredible dedication to the history and bringing you on the journey.

From the Fringe’s underground roots to its bustling gardens of Gluttony, you will leave with a newfound appreciation of all things Fringe!
