Edie’s REPORT

Reading:

  • Metamorphosis and other short stories by Franz Kafka (physical)

  • The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (digital)

  • Terrorism and Global Disorder: Political Violence in the Contemporary World by Adrian Guelke (physical)

My reading goal for 2025 is 50 books, which is a slight increase from last year. I like to have a book to read from multiple different formats, like audio books, physical to keep me engaged in whatever I’m reading. I'm sure we've all got into a reading slump from a book we didn't enjoy, if this happens I can just pivot to another one! I have found this to be super helpful in stretching my reading goal. For the rest of the year, I want to read some more poetry and other genres I haven’t really explored yet.

Eating: Vegan Homemade Ravioli

Since I have been on break from University for the past two weeks, I’ve had time to indulge in more time consuming activities. That includes making pasta from scratch. While I’ve made spaghetti and linguine before, ravioli is a new and much harder skill. I made a pumpkin, mushroom and tofu filling and served it with a simple garlic butter sauce. In my opinion they turned out great, after I worked out a robust system to make them the right size and shape.

Playing: Dungeons and Dragons

While I haven’t actually been playing D&D, I have been starting to play with the mechanics, characters and story line for my own campaign. This has been such a fun and refreshing process. One of my friends got me into it after being reluctant for a few years I discovered how fun it is! The creativity and freedom you have to let your imagination run wild is something that everyone needs to return too in adulthood. I have also been replaying Breath of the Wild and Stardew Valley

Obsessing: Zines

After being obsessed with zines during high school, my love has resurfaced. I’ve been trying to make at least one zine a month, but over the past month I have been making much more. Most of them are politically motivated but others are just fun about what video game loot I would drop. Ive been working towards making a zine collection called ‘Stir the Pot’, which requires more thematic and aesthetic planning then other one off zines but is equally as fun!

Recommending: Sam Fender’s album ‘People Watching’

It came out earlier this year, and the closer we get to Spotify Wrapped 2026, the more I am certain he will be my top artist.

My favourite songs of the album are Something Heavy, Remember My Name and Rein Me In. I have fallen in love with Irish musicians this year and Sam Fender was the one that started it all. Im very excited to be able to see him perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in November.

Treating: Tickets to Laneway 2026

Even though the prices have gone up again this year, it’s still totally  worth it to treat myself to a festival. With some of my favourite artists like Lucy Dacus, Cavetown, The Dare and Chappell Roan playing this was definitely a treat not to pass up. Hopefully I will also be able to see some awesome Australian artists and find some new favs that I haven’t heard of!
