Wood Fastest in Practice One
An intriguing first practice session unfolded at Albert Park as the Supercars hit the track for the first of two practice sessions as the Supercars began Round 2 of the Championship alongside Formula One’s Season Opener.
In a session that had James Golding top for a lot of the session in his PremiAir Camaro with a 1:48:711, everyone waited until the final moments of the session to send the times tumbling.
Ryan Wood finished top in his Walkinshaw Andretti United car, a 1:47:845 beating out Golding’s teammate, Richie Stanaway, who’s 1:47:915 was just short of enough.
After a near perfect weekend in Sydney, the championship leader, Cam Waters, struggled. He was only able to drag his Tickford Mustang to 14th, his sixth and best lap over a second from the best posted.
Compounding issues for Tickford was Waters’ teammate, Tom Randle, who finished behind Waters, a 1:49:055 nearly two tenths down in comparison to the number six Mustang. There was plenty to do for Ford Performance outfit.
Chaz Mostert, Anton De Parsquale, Kai Allen and Cooper Murray all bowled wide during one of their flying laps. However, they recovered, and set off again.
After Aaron Love’s shock departure midweek from the Blanchard Racing Team, his replacement, Aaron Cameron, was able to get into the top 10 in his first session as a full-time driver. It was positive signs for the Victorian based driver, as attention now turns to this afternoon’s session.
