Exclusive: “It was a Great Time” - Martins on the Nations Cup win
He may only be 23 years old, the future appears bright for 2022 F3 Champion Victor Martins. The talented Frenchman ticked off another goal last night in Sydney, when he not only debuted at the Race of Champions, but won the Nations Cup with Sebastian Loeb.
Speaking on Saturday Night, Martins was quick to sing the praises of the Nine-time World Rally Champion.
“I think I learnt a lot from him,” Martins began.
“I was curious about rally, how he approached his driving. His story, these kind of things.
“It was nice, good to chat, share some experiences.
“I have more to learn from him then he has to learn from me,” Martins joked.
Martins then talked around the difficulties in actually winning the competition and again sung the praises of Loeb;
“We were a good team, we helped each other. We were speaking about the cars and different things,” Martins said.
“My teammate would be able to do the job and then sometimes I’d do the job. We had to overcome those situations.”
With attention quickly turning to tonight, Martins believes the winner will come down to how quickly you can adapt;
“It’s just pure adaptation, sitting in the car,” Martins began.
“It’s step by step, I know my first car. It will build from that. Then it will be about getting through, again and again, until the final.
“I just have to be there to win it,” Martins finished.
After tonight, Martins will turn his attention to the F2 Championship.
“It has a long time between races, the first one is in Melbourne. I am looking forward to it,” Martins stated.
With the news breaking overnight of Cadillac joining the F1 grid, there are now two more seats up for grabs next year on the F1 grid. Martins, however, was not willing to pulled into conversation around those seats saying that he “has no comment on that.”
The Race of Champions begins at 7:00 Adelaide time across the Channel 10 network.
