Kostecki and Payne claim Pole Ahead of First Albert Park Races

Qualifying on Saturday belonged to Dick Johnson Racing and Brodie Kostecki after 20 minutes and two sessions.

Brodie Kostecki qualified on pole for race three, while only Matthew Payne was faster than Kostecki for race four.

Blanchard Racing’s new found pace continued with James Golding and Aaron Cameron in second and sixth for race three.

Seemingly that transformation from backmarkers to front runners might be complete, should both boys continue the trajectory in Thursday’s race.

Kostecki’s 1.47.61 was better than Golding by four-hundredths of a second.

It was a difficult session for Erebus Motorsport rookie Jobe Stewart, whose lap was well off the pace.

Reigning champion Chaz Mostert flew the Toyota flag well, placing his number one Supra in fifth and fourth respectively.

In qualifying four, he wasn’t the fastest Toyota driver, Ryan Wood joining him on the second row of the grid.

Qualifying four saw a “little change” in the words of Matthew Payne that saw him get pole position.

It was a nice return to form for the man that won on Sunday in Adelaide last year, with the Penrite Mustang having come good in the nick of time.

Payne was around the mark, finishing inside the top 10 in every session, before taking pole.  Not taking place in either session was Jayden Ojeda, the damage his sustained in practice two keeping him from competing.
