Port vs Hawthorn AFLW

The Hawks shocked the Power on Sunday night, winning by 32 points, 5.3.33 to 10.5.65. It was a slow start at Alberton Oval between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, the scoreline tied at one behind a-piece.

It was a quarter in which the football lived in between the arcs, both teams combining for 30 turnovers in a quarter to forget.

The second quarter was a better showing.

Port Adelaide’s pressure lifted, as they kicked four goals for the quarter to Hawthorn’s two. Maria Moloney and Abbey Dowrick were good for the Power, while Ashleigh Woodland won four clearances.

For Hawthorn, their defence was under pressure, with Lucy Wales, Jenna Richardson and Laura Stone combining for 12 intercept possessions.

However, the Power went out in the third.

Hawthorn dominated the third term kicking four goals to one as they took a seven-point lead into the final term.

The Hawks played territory football, as Port had to defend for long periods of the quarter before they made mistakes.

The Hawks were the better team from half-time, when Aine McDonagh ended up kicking a second goal in the last term, a 13-point ball game saw Hawthorn in the box position.

The Hawks second-half display rolled on, before Lucy Wales put through the sealer, and the first goal of her career.
