Meet the Interns: Zane Le Blond
What inspired you to become a Hub Intern and what do you do in your role?
I was originally scouted by the CCYP in mid-to-late 2023 for my previous work editing a local youth-based newsletter for the Marion Youth Collective Committee. I had previously been covering stories ranging from local youth events to state-based projects and interesting history pieces.
I am Youth Affairs Reporter — this role meaning I write stories that are of interest to young people — such as politics, trending issues, civics, and more! I also used to write pop culture-related content.
What are you passionate about outside of Hub?
Outside of my writing duties, I study a double degree combining Law and Journalism at the University of South Australia. I also am Chair of the Ministers Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and mentor for the Marion Youth Collective Committee. My hobbies include watching television shows, reading, playing old Nintendo games, and other things that interest me.
What’s your favourite thing about yourself?
I am utterly fascinated by my family heritage, in particular tracing back my genealogy beyond Australia. My family emigrated from Scotland to South Australia during the late 1960s, but before this, my family history can be traced back towards Canada, India, France, and Italy throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
Top three items on your bucket list?
My top three bucket list items are:
Tour the world: I would love to learn as much about the world and its history across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Own every Pokémon game: I am a massive Pokémon freak (being my comfort game since childhood), and I want to be able to have a collection of every single game in existence.
Uplift voices: I love hearing the stories of those who can’t speak for themselves. Everyone has unique, interesting lives, and I want to empower as many people through journalism.
What is a food or dish that always puts you in a good mood?
Chicken Schnitzel is unbeatable.
